July 2005 The International Accounting Standards Committee Foundation
The Translation department organises and manages the translation of approved Accounting Standards into up to 30 languages covering the globe.
The Objective: During an initial meeting with the Translation Team and their Manager, the desired objectives for the translation department were established. The Language Factor drew up a proposal outlining which areas needed to be evaluated and which departments would need to be available during the on-site consultation period.
The Outcome: The Language Factor spent 3 days with the team and the interfacing department heads. The outcome was a 15 page report analysing the process, highlighting problem areas and giving recommendations including timeframes for implementation. Recommendations covered diverse areas from the organisation of electronic workspace for projects to the resourcing of translation providers, project planning, terminology and translation memory management and reporting and risk assessment.
Leilani Macdonald, Assistant Translation Project Manager at IASCF said: "It was extremely helpful to discuss our ideas with an expert in the translation industry and to investigate the pros and cons of the current processes and how to change them in order to achieve our targets."
Kurt Ramin, Commercial Director, IASCF commented: "We are pleased with The Language Factor's expertise in the field of translation process management. Their input helped the team to focus on change and the recommendations are workable measures that the team can implement at their own pace."
